Objectives

  • Define master formulations and distinguish sterile from non-sterile.
  • Differentiate Magisterial Formulations of pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Discuss in Detail Chapters <795> and <800> of The United States Pharmacopeia.
  • Discuss the most outstanding points of the federal and Puerto Rico laws that regulate the exercise of the preparation of magisterial formulations.
  • Provide a directory of professional organizations, distributors, and agencies that offer service to compounding pharmacies.
  • Review calculations, procedures and basic equipment used in the preparation of magisterial formulations.
  • Discuss the therapeutic classifications and/or markets for which non-sterile magisterial formulations are made.
  • Common pediatric conditions that are treated with magisterial formulations in various dosage forms will be discussed.
  • Pediatric and geriatric extemporaneous preparations will be made in the laboratory and the calculations involved in said preparations will be reviewed.
  • Review the anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry of the male and female endocrine systems.
  • Review in detail all the phases of a woman's menstrual cycle, hormonal imbalances and their consequences.
  • Discuss the treatment of men and women with hormonal imbalance through the use of hormone replacement therapy with hormones. bio-identical.
  • Discuss the most common magisterial formulations, the different bases and dosage forms used in hormone replacement therapy.
  • Discuss the most appropriate and common routes of administration in hormone replacement therapy.
  • Discuss the mechanism of how pain is produced and the different treatment options through the use of transdermal compounding.
  • Make transdermal pain management preparations in the laboratory.
  • Discuss the regulations that apply to physician and patient marketing of all types of compounded formulations.
