Introducción:
El módulo de INFECTIONS CONTROL: NEW ERA CHALLENGES, está por el Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) para la certificación profesional del Farmacéutico y Técnico de Farmacia. El mismo es equivalente a 3 horas contacto crédito. Este módulo capacita al lector sobre los diferentes mecanismos y medidas de prevención que debe llevar a cabo para el control de infecciones durante el manejo de ciertas condiciones patológicas. Se requiere una puntuación de (70) por ciento o más para registrar el crédito correspondiente al módulo de la educación continua correspondiente.
La Junta de Farmacia de Puerto Rico aprobó mediante Resolución 2015-982 permitir al farmacéutico hasta un máximo de (25) horas contacto de capacitación a través de educación continua a distancia. Las restantes (10) horas contacto tendrán que ser presenciales. El Técnico de Farmacia podrá acumular un máximo de 0.9 U.E.C. (9 horas).

Objectives
- Recognize the benefit to patients and healthcare workers of adhering to scientifically accepted principles and practices of infection prevention and control.
- Recognize non-specific disease findings that should prompt evaluation of healthcare workers.
- List strategies for preventing transmission of pathogenic organisms (HIV, HCV, HBV, TB).
- Describe specific measures to prevent transmission of bloodborne pathogens from patient to patient, healthcare worker to patient, and patient to healthcare worker.
- Describe the circumstances that require the use of barriers and personal protective equipment to prevent patient or healthcare worker contact with potentially infectious material.
- Identify occupational health strategies for preventing transmission of bloodborne pathogens and other communicable diseases in healthcare workers.
- Recognize the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians responsibility to adhere to scientifically accepted infection prevention and control practices in all healthcare settings and the consequences of failing to comply.
