Objectives

  • Discuss the pathophysiologic relations between metabolic conditions, cardio, and renal associated diseases.
  • Identify risk reduction strategies to prevent cardio-renal-metabolic comorbidities.
  • Discuss evidence-based data that support the use of medications to prevent cardio-renal -metabolic comorbidities.
  • Describe place in therapy of the different pharmacologic interventions to prevent and manage metabolic-cardio-renal comorbidities. 
  • Analyze the differences in incretin-based, sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors and other therapies related to cardiorenal protection
  • Explain risks and benefits of medications in people with diabetes, heart failure and/or chronic kidney disease to prevent or manage comorbidities.
  • Value the role of the pharmacist as member of interprofessional team caring for these patients.
